Safety Measures Every Construction Site Must Consider
Every construction site has multiple activities going on that
considering safety becomes a priority. Safety measures at any construction site
help prevent unforeseen situations that may arise due to malfunction of
machines, mistakes by workers or inappropriate equipment. The accidents related
to construction sites can be minimal or severe enough to take a life.
The team leaders are responsible for protecting the health and safety of
all the workers, regardless of their work fields. Accidents, if happen, can
interfere and results in the slowdown of construction activities abruptly,
resulting in the loss of loads of money.
The maintenance department must inspect each and everything before
taking it on the construction site. Besides, they must also check on the installation of system scaffoldings to see if
they are sturdy enough to hold the required number of workers and the equipment
to be used on different heights.
If you are the manager of a construction site, it is your dusty to take
specific precautions and safeguard your worksite from any risks. Therefore, to
help you out, I have mentioned some important safety measures that you must
consider-
1) Offer Safety Training-
Before deploying personnel to the construction site, each one of them
must be trained under a particular safety programme by the construction
company. The benefit of the training is to access high risks and how to tackle
them apart from taking safety measures.
2) Enhance Site Security-
Besides keeping a check on the condition and functioning of the
equipment and protecting them from theft, you must ensure tight security during
the work hours to restrict them from entering the construction premises. It is
important to keep the general public away from construction hazards by
implementing security systems which include supervision and authorized access.
3) Assess the Workplace and Inspect Equipment-
Assess the workplace of any pitfalls that might occur in your worksite. For
instance, inadequate lighting during dusk time can cause injuries while
operating pointy tools. Therefore, get adequate lighting if your team is
working during the dark—secondly, weak scaffolding structure incapable of
holding people on various floors. Therefore install sturdy scaffolding structures that will hold the people while working on different storeys.
4) Use Clear Signage Throughout the Site-
Signboards must be displaced and installed at various locations on the
worksite, making it easy for the workers and the pedestrians to comprehend different
areas. There must be signage for basic amenities like toilet, entry and exit
points, etc. Boards displaying safety protocols, emergency contact numbers and
signs of restrictions must be displayed too in the precinct.
5) Storage Solution for Chemicals-
Worksites often consist of chemicals to be used in the construction
process, and such compounds must be stored in a place where they are not
exposed to environmental changes or areas prone to human contact since these
chemicals can result in fires, explosions, asphyxiation, chemical injury and
pollution on worksites. They must be stored in high-quality containers
separately.
